Every item we pass on is given with care so that families feel they’ve received a gift — not a handout.

That’s why everything we accept must meet the Pelican Standard: clean, safe and in a condition you’d be happy to give to a friend.

Because many of the families we support have limited space, we focus on practical, essential items that make the biggest difference.

What We Can Accept

We welcome a wide range of essential items for babies and children, provided they are clean, safe and in excellent condition.
We particularly need:
Clothing (premature to 12 years)
Toys and books (complete and non-battery operated)
Bedding and blankets
Baby equipment (in safe, working condition)
Toiletries (new and unopened)

What We Can't Accept

For safety, hygiene and practicality reasons, we are unable to accept certain items.
These include:
Car seats
Battery-operated toys
Large or bulky toys
CDs or DVDs
Cot bumpers
Nappy bins
Bikes and helmets
Door bouncers or ride-on toys
Adult or maternity clothing

If you’re unsure about an item, please check with us before donating.

Clothing Guidelines

We accept clothing from premature baby size up to 12 years.
Please ensure all items are:
Freshly laundered
In excellent condition
Free from stains, damage or heavy wear

If possible, please sort clothing by size and label bags clearly.

We are unable to pass on items with:
Personalised messages (e.g. “best brother”)
Battery-operated toys

This helps ensure every item can be used sensitively by any family.

Toys & Books

We welcome toys and books that are clean, complete and suitable for children.
We accept:
Books with no missing pages
Games and puzzles with all pieces
Small cuddly toys
Creative materials such as colouring supplies
We do not accept:
Battery-operated toys
Large toys or ride-on items
Items with missing parts

As many families have limited space, smaller items are especially helpful.

Baby Equipment

We accept a range of baby equipment, provided it is safe, clean and complete.
This includes:
Prams and buggies (with working brakes and harness)
Highchairs (with harness and tray)
Cots and travel cots (with instructions)
Bouncer chairs and rockers
Please ensure all items:
Are clean and ready to use
Include all necessary parts
Meet current safety standards

Toiletries & Essentials

We provide essential toiletries for babies, children and parents.
We accept:
Nappies and wipes
Baby toiletries and creams
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Shampoo and shower products

All items must be new and unopened.

We also welcome items to support new mums, such as maternity pads and breast pads.

Safety Guidelines

All items are checked before being passed on to ensure they are safe and suitable for children.

Please review the guidance below when preparing your donation.

All toys must be safe, clean and in good condition.

Please ensure they:

Have no sharp edges or damage

Do not contain loose or detachable parts

Are clean and hygienic

Do not require batteries

Please ensure:

The frame is sturdy and complete

No parts are missing or damaged

Instructions are included (or printed from online)

All items must:

Have working brakes

Include a secure harness

Fold and lock correctly

Be clean and fully functional

Instructions should be included where possible.

Highchairs must:

Have a full safety harness

Be stable and secure

Lock properly if foldable

Be clean and ready to use

Where and When to Donate

You can drop off items at our warehouse in Hove:

Donation Drop OFF

Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm
Last Saturday of every month, 10am to 12noon

We’re located near Hove Park, next to Goldstone Retail Park. You can pull up directly outside our doors to make donating easy.
